How to Report Your Accident
If the accident occurs within the boundaries of Lower Manhattan, officers from the 1st Precinct may respond to the scene and prepare an official police accident report.
In many cases, calling 9-1-1 immediately after the crash is the fastest way to notify the NYPD. Emergency dispatch will send police officers and medical personnel to the scene if needed. When officers arrive, they will typically document key details about the accident, including the vehicles involved, the parties’ statements, and any visible injuries or property damage.
This information is compiled into a Police Accident Report (MV-104A), which can become an important piece of evidence when pursuing compensation for your injuries.
If police were not called at the scene, you can still report the incident afterward by contacting the NYPD 1st Precinct directly or visiting the precinct in person. Providing details such as the location of the crash, the time it occurred, and the vehicles involved can help officers create or locate the appropriate report.
