How Do I Get My Records?
For the Clerk to find your records, they need the index number for your case file.
When you arrive at the Records Department, you need to fill out a requisition form. These are at the front counter in a tray. You must include the Plaintiff’s name (most likely your name) and the Defendant’s name (the person you sued). You also need to include your phone number, the type of identification you provided, and your email address.
If your case occurred in 2014 or later, the records you need are digitized. The Clerk may show you to a computer station to access those files.
If you are searching for records for a case you commenced online via the New York State Courts Electronic Filing System (NYSCEF) or those that have been converted to e-filed status, you can view them at the NYSCEF live system.
How Much Do Records Cost?
It is 25 cents a page to make copies of your records. You must bring exact change, or you can pay by certified check, credit card, money order, attorney check, or official bank check. You cannot pay with a personal check.
You can pay for the records at the Cashier Department office located at:
60 Centre Street, Room 141B
New York, NY 10007
646-386-5949
The Cashier Department closes at 4:15 p.m.
Is This How I Get My Accident Report?
No. You can obtain your accident report via the NYPD Collision Retrieval Portal or by going to the precinct covering the area where your accident occurred. You can find the precinct by entering the address where your accident occurred (or an estimated address like the nearest intersection) here.
