After a crash, getting a copy of your accident report is one of the most important steps you can take. Whether you’re dealing with insurance, pursuing a legal claim, or simply trying to understand what happened, the police report is an essential document. If your accident occurred in Midtown Manhattan, your report is likely on file with the NYPD’s Midtown South Precinct.

About the Midtown South Precinct

The Midtown South Precinct is located at 357 W 35th St, New York, NY 10001, and can be reached at 212-239-9811.

The precinct serves Times Square, Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, the Koreatown section, and the Manhattan Mall Plaza. Parking in the immediate area is extremely limited, but several parking lots and garages are within walking distance.

Why Is a Police Report So Important?

After an accident, a police report serves as an official, third-party record of what occurred. It documents the date, time, and location of the crash, identifies the parties and vehicles involved, and may include witness information, road conditions, and the responding officer’s observations.

Insurance companies routinely rely on this report when evaluating claims, and it can be critical evidence if your case moves toward litigation. Without it, proving the facts of your accident becomes significantly harder.

How to Obtain Your Accident Report

There are three ways to get your report:

  • Online. The fastest option is through the NYPD Collision Report Retrieval Portal. You can access it 24/7 and download your report without visiting the precinct in person.
  • In person. You may visit the Midtown South Precinct directly at 357 W. 35th St. Bring a valid ID and any information you have about the accident, such as the date and the names of those involved.
  • By mail. You can also submit a Request for Copy of a Collision Report by mail. This option takes longer but is available if visiting in person is not convenient.
